We came up inside brands. In 2016, our two co-founders held senior roles at a Toronto clothing label as it scaled past 300 retailers, one of us leading creative, the other running finance. Fashion shows, trade shows, the whole machine. That's where we learned how a brand gets built and sold, with real money and real deadlines on the line.
In 2019 we moved into freelance and consulting, and our first real clients came fast, starting with a marquee name in the creative world and then a fast-growing brand in fitness and supplements, requiring us to build a team around us. Around the same time we were building direct-to-consumer brands of our own, which have since done over seven figures.
Along the way, at the clothing brand, in our own stores, and across the agencies we hired, we kept hitting the same gap: work that looked great but didn't sell, or sold but looked nothing like the brand. We built Modus to close it. Creative and performance, treated as one job instead of two.
Today we run Modus Collective as a digital marketing and creative agency for growing e-commerce and local businesses. Because we've had our own money on the line, we treat yours the same way.
